Just a quick note about the Sharesight securities platform that we've been using for some time now. In brief, its a portfolio tracker that you can automate to get your contract notes sent from your broker, and the cashflows passed on to your accounting software, such as Xero.
To start, you load your investment trades as a CSV file and create a name for that portfolio. Once imported, you can then see a view of your investments. There are also handy graphs by value, price or benchmark. As dividends are paid out, these also show up on your graphs (as dollar icons on the payout dates).
You can see full details of the dividend payouts for each security, including tax (in Australia, it shows you complete franking details).
For tax time there are about a dozen reports showing various measures such as all dividend payouts (with associated tax details), realized/unrealized capital gains, buy & sell trades, forex reports, contribution analysis, or general performance.
With its seamless Xero integration, its an incredibly useful platform for anyone who has a bunch of shares that they'd like to automatically track into their cash accounts.
There's a free edition to use for as long as you like. We use a premium edition, which we're more than happy to recommend.
